Post retirement ?

Oh my its been almost a year since my last update. As mentioned in the last post,my main activity is mountain biking on singletrack trail which I had a hand in designing and building and have a blast riding on almost every weekend in 2014.
On the motorcycling side, I have bought my dream bike and recently sold my trusty 6 year old ER6. Now Im down to three bikes which suit my purpose well.
Post retirement activity is going on well enough.

Welcome 2014

2014 is here and with best wishes.
Personally its going to be a mountainbiking year as far as my hobbies is concerned. After not being very active for the past couple of years the passion is back and  more so. Finally I have a trail that I can call a homebased trail. With a few like minded mountain bikers together we built a short and  fun single track on a piece of land which is still undeveloped and hopefully it wont be in the short future. The land is a logged over forest and the newly grown trees and undergrowth provides a canopy on a hot riding session. Its the perfect trail for an oldfart.

Pantai Pandak

It is not what it was 30 years ago but the sole coconut tree is still there wheather beaten and all. It brought me memories of sliding and pulling long wheelies on the hardpack beach. It felt great just to be and ride there again

First ride 2013

I'm a year older. 2013 came without much a do as its just another number anyways. I'm just my oldself as far as my hobbies are concerned and to remain true to this blog I'm only going to write about my passion for adv riding/travel, local or otherwise.
After much contemplation my five year old ER6 is going to stay for I see no concrete reason to change as long as it can provide for my riding needs. I've fitted a 19 inch front wheel recently to improve its capability to ride offroad. The first adv ride of the year is to see the effect of the improvement made.
I take of from my house and take the old route to Tasik Kundang for a look and see after a very long while,as expected the edge of the lake is converted into a housing estate.Nothing to see and I proceed to Serendah waterfall via Rawang. I plan to ride the offroad sector beyond the waterfall but it has been cemented, again another big dissapointment. As far a the bike goes so far?I like it but I've have yet to test its real offroad handling,so far its road manner provides me confidence despite old tires still on the rims.
The return sector is Serendah to Ijok via Batu Arang. The snakey road brings out the real character of the bike...it Is fun on the road.
I ride toward Meru and to climb Bukit Ramlee to put the bike to test. The climb is rutted due to the rain but I'm happy with the bike and the 19 inch front really helps in dodging the puddles and rocks.
Descend at around six PM and head for home via Jln Batu Arang/Bkt Jelutong.
Distance covered 150 km,time taken app 3 hrs.

2012 is closing its door and 2013 is welcomed with greater hope for better future for mankind.
On a more personal note I'm ready to face the future while growing old gracefully. A few things gotta change though..
I shall spend more time riding locally on the less glamourous and unmapped roads.

Mountain Trials

Frim trail is not one of my favourite and I've been cycling there on and off for the past years. My recent ride on the newly built trails has changed my perspective and respect for the trails. The newly built Pacat Trail is a really fun all mountain trail with technical descend capable of providing a respectable speed. The  immediate adjoining trail is Bukit Steroid which has been renamed Bukit Tongkat Ali. It has not changed much from its original condition except has been repacked and groomed with gravels which makes it much harder to balance oneself while ascending the steep gradient. I'm not ashamed to confess that I've never climbed higher beyond Steroid during so many rides in FRIM in the past 20 years of mountainbiking. On a recent adventure I climbed all the way to Pinus Peak instead of continueing the descend from Steroid peak. I took the ascending right fork toward Pinus Peak and descended via a rooted and technical singletrack trials style which is my favourite form of mountain biking and trail riding. I loved it. Since I entered the trails via the back from hospital kusta in Sg. Buloh, the return ride back to the carpark was exhilerating being downhill almost all the way. Frim trails is one of my favourite now.
